The Cold War campaign starts out in the year 1954 when the world's first operational supersonic jet fighter, the F-100A Super Sabre, enters service. Engage in high-speed dogfights with the early guns-only jet fighters, then advance through the years as early rear-aspect only Sidewinder missiles are introduced. Then climb into the new era of air combat with missiles-only fighters armed with radar-guided missiles. And finally, scramble in the post-Vietnam jet fighters and engage in blood-draining high-g dogfights using all-aspect missiles!
The campaign advances one year when you accumulate 5 kills flying any aircraft available on/or before that year. Every time you advance a year, you earn 1 unlock key so you can fly the latest aircraft. Additional keys may be earned when you get promoted to a new level; the level promotion is based on the total accumulated score and not limited to the year.
Later year aircraft can be bought as in-app purchase and unlocked early and played out of sequence. You just need to go to the Options screen and set it to show later year aircraft to see them.
The game uses accelerometer (tilt sensor) for controlling the aircraft. The sensor is automatically centered every time you play, but there is also a button at the top center of the screen to "re-center" it manually to the current orientation anytime during game play.
The radar screen at the top right corner of the screen shows top-down position of the enemy fighters, and the red arrows on the screen show which direction to turn. The arrow changes into a red box when the target is in front. Once the target is in gun range, a red aim dot appears indicating where to lead and shoot to hit the target. Remember that enemy fighters are also turning and attempting to get behind your six!
Targeting is automatic, missiles automatically lock-on to the target with best chance of hitting, which is generally the one closest to the center of the screen. Missile chances are affected by the range, both max range and min range, as well as the target aspect (especially for the early heat seekers which are rear aspect only!)

This game is totally rad. Awesome graphics, physics & controls, very realistic sense of air-to-air combat. Would be nice to add some newer planes like the F-22 , MiG-35 & F-35, perhaps a Eurofighter etc. Oh, and the music is pretty lame. But otherwise this game rocks... and it's free!
